BACKSTAGE

Visual Concept / Identity / Graphic Design

Chicago Social Club

When Backstage, a weekly club night in Amsterdam, was founded, the concept was to create the same atmosphere as you can experience being ‘backstage’ at a party: a loose, friendly insiders’ vibe. This concept had to be translated into the artwork, while making use of the abundant pictures of the public, photographed during previous editions.

With these pictures I created collages wherein certain parts are repeated or shifted, so a otherwise recognisable face, person or action is hidden. These mysterious images gave away enough of the fashionable style of the crowd and the party to communicate with the target audience, but at the same time triggered the imagination and emphasised the exclusiveness of the party.
